YERBERA Yerba mate container
Two things annoy everyone who drinks mate regularly. The first: pouring yerba from the packet into the narrow neck of a calabash without spilling half of it on the table. The second: an opened packet goes flat within a couple of weeks — the aroma leaves and the taste turns dull.
The yerbera solves both. A metal tin with a screw lid and a built-in dispensing spout.
The dispenser
The spout aims the stream of yerba precisely into the vessel. You can pour one-handed, without steadying the calabash or cupping a palm under the edge.
The difference tells at once: the charge ends up where it should be rather than around it. Especially with a narrow vessel — a torpedo, a 230 ml steel cup, a ceramic matero.
The screw lid
The lid screws on rather than clipping. It will not open by itself in a bag or a rucksack, and it seals the contents tightly against air.
It is exactly the access of air that kills the freshness of yerba: the volatiles leave, and after two or three weeks the packet smells markedly weaker than on the day it was opened. In a closed tin the process is far slower.
Capacity 250 g
Half a standard 500 g packet. That is a working supply for one or two weeks of daily mate — precisely the amount people keep to hand.
The rest is best left in its original packaging somewhere dry and topped up as it goes: that way the second half of the packet does not age alongside the first.
Metal and finish
The body is metal with a thick wall — the tin does not dent in a bag or deform if something is put on top of it.
The finish is matt black with a roughened texture: it does not slip in the hand and does not collect fingerprints. It looks calm and does not stand out from a kitchen.
Care
Wipe it with a dry cloth, wash it if needed and always dry it completely before putting yerba in. Moisture inside is the one thing that can spoil the contents.
The dispenser spout is worth clearing from time to time: fine dust stays in it.
Who it suits
Anyone who drinks mate every day and buys yerba in large packets. Anyone who takes mate travelling — the tin keeps its lid shut and stops the yerba scattering through a bag.
And anyone who likes a kitchen to look in order: a packet with a torn corner and a clothes peg on it looks rather different.
